About The Owner

Rob Pleas (last name pronounced 'Place') was raised in Maryland and because his dad was in the military, moved to Seattle in 1986. He lived in Las Vegas for a short time but quickly found his way back to Washington. He studied computers throughout high school and college and graduated with a computer programming degree. In 1979 Rob's dad took a correspondence course, the final project being a HEATH kit computer. From 1982 to 1985 Rob began learning BASIC programming and coded two or three ZORK-like games. Seeing the limitations of BASIC, Rob begged and pleaded to learn Assembler and for his birthday received an introductory self-study course book for Assembler for HDOS. Jump ahead to age 19, Rob found himself working for Microsoft where he worked for the next 4 1/2 years. He also worked at Digital Equipment Corp. where he specialized in testing on Alpha computers and the Alpha version of Microsoft's Terminal Server. Finally, Rob worked at Compaq Computers until he quit the industry altogether.

Rob developed an interest in welding because in the late 60s his Uncle raced a Lotus 11 and a Lotus 23 and often had to do simple welding. Even after his Uncle quit racing, the welding equipment was still around and Rob’s interest grew. After Rob’s career in computers he enrolled in welding school. In school Rob became proficient with all types of welding. He was top in his class and not only helped design class projects, but helped teach students when the instructor was not available. One of the school projects was a competition and Rob was "foreman" of one of three welding groups. His group placed first. He worked professionally in the railing industry before opening his own welding business.

Rob has a strong love for and skill in music. During his school years he played several different instruments but fell in love with the electric bass. He played bass for about 15 years before a car accident ended his music career. He has toured all over Washington and several states across the U.S. Rob often worked with local jazz pianist Reuel Lubag and his band Fusionesque. Fusionesque was fortunate enough to play at Jazz Alley. Rob has also played several times with local sax artist Darren Motamedy.

Rob comes from a long line of small businessmen in the family. For example, his Great Uncle owned and operated a tool and die shop in Detroit, Michigan building the tooling GM used to produce car parts. His step Grandfather owned and operated a farm equipment dealer in Eastern WA that has been in business for over 75 years. It is still in the family and provided great experience for Rob years ago. Rob has restored a '56 Ford pickup and a '69 Chevy stepside pickup. He enjoys cycling, photography and cooking (much to his wife’s delight).
